Vanessa Carlton survives Pitbull Attacked; Dog Owner Safety Tips

'A Thousand Miles' singer Vanessa Carlton was attacked and bitten by a 9-month old Pitbull dog on May 2 while on a jog in her northern PA home.

Doctors are monitoring her for any infections, but she is expected to be fine. The dog, however, may not be so lucky. Animal control officials have put Bella under a 10-day home quarantine, as a precaution against rabies or a change in behavior.

Bella's owners, Ben and Jo Anne Teichberg, said Ed and Vanessa Carlton confronted them two days after the attack and said they wanted the dog put down.

"They are branding Bella as a dangerous animal and want her put to death," owner Ben Teichberg told the Record. "They said because Bella is a pit bull, it is known to be bad."

Dog owners, remember that you are civilly liable for your pet when something like this happens.  If you know your dog or its breed is naturally inclined to have violent behavior, keep them locked up or in a safe, physical barrier away from the people.  There are also leash laws that prohibit owners from taking dogs off of a leash in public settings, which if violated, can result in fines.  Take precautionary steps when it comes to your dog and the public.  You don't want to have to PAY for it later.
