Model Chanel Iman Slammed for Weight: Our Body image crisis


Chanel Iman was recently slammed by the Sweden media over her H&M ads. The Swedish ombudsman Reklamombudsmannen, a watchdog group for the advertising industry there says she is sending the wrong message to consumers by having a small frame such as hers. In the past few years, models and actresses have come under fire for their weight size in the media. Some fashion designers such as March Jacobs have recently used more full size models with curves in their fashion shows. This has, also, an antecedent because some women are gaining weight to get in the media. We have a problem with our self-image as Americans and world citizens due to the media and our insecurities.
In reality, there is no normal size in America. Striving to be a size is not the problem, but using unhealthy and detrimental means to get there is. Chanel Iman is probably just a naturally thin person, should she gain weight just to be a "normal" size. Images in the media shouldn't affect how we feel about ourselves, they are just images.
