Madonna & Malawi: How we can help?

We all know how much Madonna loves Malawi. She adopted her son from there, visits there quite often, and now she is opening up a Raising Malawi Academy for Girls that will begin construction Tuesday. She has written an emotional blog on the website, RaisingMalawi.org,

In a country of 14 million, a staggering one million children have been left alone with the responsibility of raising each other. I returned home knowing the future of Malawi was resting on the shoulders of these orphaned children, and I had to act.

So it is with tremendous joy that I return to Malawi to lay the first brick in the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. By educating girls we will rebuild this community and raise this nation.

Our academy will educate, protect, and empower 450 young girls who are Malawi’s hope for the future. We will stop the brain drain happening in so many African nations—our students will receive an internationally competitive education while incorporating local values

We commend Madonna on her help in other countries. This should inspire us to want to help out with children and you do not have to go all the way to Malawi to do it. Volunteering at your local Boys and Girls Club, become a coach for a little league team, or give to your local youth group. Every little bit helps in the life of a child. We get so caught up in our own lives, that we forget our future needs help.

You can also go on Raising Malawi website for more information on this program.
